Abstract: Planet earth is changing. We are affecting its surface, its climate and its inhabitants. Watching from ground level it can be difficult to make sense of it all, but these days we do have the data to turn global scale issues into something we can all understand. One particular area where this data can really help us understand and manage impacts is flooding. This video from BBC Click travels to Bangladesh, where in 2017 one third of the country was submerged by floodwaters. While AI can’t stop the rain it can help people stay one step ahead of the weather. See how, as part of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance, Practical Action has been using AI technology to help farmers in Bangladesh fight back against the rain. Also discover how this technology has already transformed flood resilience in Switzerland, as the BBC Click team visit Zurich Insurance to see how data is being used to measure the resilience of communities and help them prepare.
