|Title:||Increased Flood Lead Time: Saving More Lives in Nepal|
|Keywords:||Flood Control-Early warning system, पूर्वचेतावनी प्रणाली, Sistema de alerta temprana|
|Abstract:||Multiple challenges exist in creating flood early warning systems in developing countries like Nepal. Despite these challenges Practical Action has worked with government and private sector in Nepal to establish a flood early warning system. This video outlines how they achieved this. The system in place is supported by the Department for Hydrology and Meteorology in Nepal and uses probabilistic forecasting to give up to 4 hours additional warning compared to the previous real-time system. The system has been installed in 6 river basins in Nepal. Partnerships with telecommunication companies ensure that life-saving information can reach the people who need it.|
