GIS and Mapping

Geographic Information Services (GIS) and other open source (OS) technologies can be used to reduce the impact of and improve preparedness for flood events. GIS can be used with hydrological data to generate flood risk maps, and other OS technologies can be used to track rescue workers, register disaster victims, and map disaster hotspots, among many other applications. This is a relatively new field with great potential for further life-saving innovation.
